Airport Authority Launches New Web Site
sanplan.com provides details about airport improvement plans and public involvement opportunities
SAN DIEGO – October 15, 2007 – This month, the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority launched a new Web site dedicated to providing public information about the Airport Master Plan.
The www.sanplan.com Web site is designed to be a one-stop shop for information about proposed improvements at San Diego International Airport. The new site complements the Authority’s primary Web site, www.san.org.
The Airport Authority Board is pursuing a phased planning effort. Phase 1 plans will focus on maintaining the airport’s efficiency and highly rated service levels through 2015 with additional gates, parking and improvements. Phase 2 will look at a longer-term visionary plan to meet the regional demand for air transportation for the next generation. Phase 1 improvements include:
- 10 new jet gates and expanded concourse at Terminal 2
- Second-level roadway with separate departure and arrival areas
- New and expanded parking facilities for travelers
- Airfield improvements including aircraft parking aprons and taxiways
“Beyond improving San Diego’s future air transportation systems, we are committed to keeping the San Diego County community informed and involved in the Airport Master Plan process,” said Thella F. Bowens, President/CEO of the Airport Authority. “This Web site is a key component of our county-wide public outreach.”

The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority was
established by state law in 2003 to operate San Diego
International Airport and
to address the region’s long-term air transportation needs. The
Airport Authority is governed by a nine-member appointed Board representing
all areas of the County. San Diego International Airport — funded
through user fees and not local taxes — is the nation’s
busiest single-runway commercial service airport, serving
some 17.5 million passengers in 2006.
