What is an Environmental Impact Report?

An Environmental Impact Report (EIR), is a comprehensive study of all impacts to the environment associated with the Terminal Development Program to improve San Diego International Airport and enhance travel experiences for San Diego County residents and visitors.  It ensures actions being taken by the Airport Authority consider potential impacts in surrounding communities and to the environment.

The Draft EIR covers potential impacts on visual resources, air and water quality, archaeological and historical issues, impacts to wildlife, noise, the coastal zone, traffic and circulation, toxic and hazardous issues and cumulative effects to the environment as well.

As required by the California Environmental Quality Act, the Draft EIR is an objective, full-disclosure report meant to inform the public about possible impacts to the environment and seek input on alternatives to reduce the impacts.
